Housewarming Party Bar Guide: Hiring a Bartender for Your New Home
A new home deserves a proper first party. But anyone who has hosted at home knows the catch: the host ends up in the kitchen, refilling ice, hunting for glasses and mixing drinks while the conversation happens without them. Hiring a bartender for your housewarming fixes that. The drinks are handled, the guests are looked after, and you get to show off the place you worked hard for. This guide covers how to plan the bar for a housewarming in Singapore, from space and menu to staffing and cleanup.
Why a Housewarming Suits a Bartender
A housewarming is a mixed-crowd event by nature. Family, friends, neighbours and colleagues arrive over a couple of hours, drift through the rooms and want something in their hand. The guest list often spans several age groups, and not everyone drinks the same way.
A bartender gives that crowd one friendly place to gather, a menu that suits most tastes, and a steady pace through the afternoon or evening. It also takes a job off you that nobody else can do for you. Hosts rarely enjoy their own party when they are the barman.
Where to Put the Bar in Your Home
You do not need a dedicated bar area. We are fully mobile and bring what we need, so the question is simply where a table can go.
- Near the living area, not the entrance. A bar right at the door creates a bottleneck. A spot a few steps in lets guests settle before they queue.
- Away from the kitchen traffic. If food is being served from the kitchen, keep the bar out of that path.
- On a sturdy, stain-proof table. Most events run off a 1.8m table, and 1.2m is enough for a smaller gathering. If you do not have one, we can arrange a table for $60, which is a transport charge only.
- On a floor-safe spot. Ice melts and glasses sweat, so protect wooden floors and soft furnishings.
If your home is a condo unit, a landed home or a flat, the same principles apply. If the space is tight, a condo function room is a good alternative, and we can set up there as well.
Building the Menu
A housewarming menu should be easy to enjoy and easy to run. A good starting point is two cocktails plus beer or wine, and a mocktail for guests who are not drinking.
Crowd-pleasers work best at a mixed gathering. A Tom Collins is light and refreshing in Singapore's heat. A Whisky Sour is balanced and widely liked. A Margarita is familiar, and a Lychee Martini adds a local favourite. All of them can be customised, so if you and your partner love passionfruit, a Passionfruit Margarita makes the menu feel like yours.
A housewarming also leaves room for something personal. A signature drink named after your new address, your street or a joke between you and your partner gives guests something to talk about and photograph.
Do Not Forget the Non-Drinkers
A home gathering is likely to include drivers, older relatives and guests who do not drink for personal or health reasons. A proper mocktail, with homemade lemon and lime juice and a garnish, keeps them part of the party. Our guide to a [mobile mocktail bar for mixed crowds](/articles/mobile-mocktail-bar-mixed-crowds-singapore) covers how to plan it.
How Many Bartenders and How Much Alcohol
For a housewarming, one bartender is often enough. As a general guide, one bartender covers up to 30 guests when cocktails are on the menu, and up to 50 guests when the drinks are simpler. If your guest list is larger, or you want a longer menu, a second bartender keeps service quick. Our guide on [one bartender or a full team](/articles/one-bartender-or-full-team-singapore) explains how we decide.
For quantities, a useful rule is that one standard bottle gives about 15 servings, and around two cocktails per guest is a good planning figure for a relaxed party. If you are bringing your own bottles, BYOB is welcome with no corkage fee, and our [drink calculator guide](/articles/event-bar-drink-calculator-singapore) shows the working.
Food and the Pace of the Party
Most housewarmings serve food, whether catered, homemade or a mix. Drinks and food work best when they share the same timeline. Guests who have eaten pace themselves better, and a bartender who knows when food is going out can time the busiest drink moments around it.
Tell us the rough schedule. If there is a short speech or a toast, we pause service out of respect for the speaker and resume as soon as they finish. If you plan a house tour, a cake or a thank-you moment, share that too, so we can have fresh drinks ready when guests gather.
Neighbours, Noise and House Rules
Hosting at home brings a few practical points that venue events do not.
- Noise. A bar draws a crowd, and a crowd draws volume. Check your condo or building rules on noise and gathering size.
- Guest access. Some buildings require visitor registration or limit the number of guests. Sort this out before the day.
- Loading access. We bring equipment, so we need a clear route from the lift or car park to your unit. Tell us about any loading restrictions.
We would rather you check these early than discover them on the day. If your building has tight rules, a function room may be the easier route.
Setup and Cleanup at Home
We arrive about an hour before your event to set up. That hour covers logistics and last-minute touches that hosts often leave undone.
A home is a different setting for cleanup. Towards the end of the event, a two-bartender team starts a working clean-up about half an hour before the finish, packing our equipment and consolidating leftovers. It is not a thorough clean of your home, because that would run past the agreed hours. If you want a full clean, it is available as a chargeable extra.
Before the day, sort out the basics from our [bar event checklist](/articles/bar-event-checklist-singapore): ice ordered about three hours before, an icebox (a styrofoam box costs about $20), glassware (a 14oz / 350ml rock glass suits most cocktails), and the shopping list followed exactly.
What It Costs
Our packages are a good reference point. The Intimate Party Package is $310 for 30 guests, and the Signature Package is $680 for up to 200 guests. A $50 non-refundable deposit per staff member confirms your booking. The final quote depends on your guest count and what you need, so send us the details and we will build it around your party. Our [pricing guide](/articles/event-bar-services-pricing-singapore) explains how a quote is put together.
We ask for two weeks' notice where possible, and one week at the minimum.
